'The Story of Alquist' is the first experimental movie where you can talk with an AI narrator. Ask any questions to reveal the mystery and conclude the story!

This pioneering short film demonstrates a novel way of interacting with films. You don't have to be a passive observer. You can use your own voice to talk with the narrator and shape your experience.

The movie is inspired by the theater play R.U.R., written in 1920 by the Czech author Karel Čapek, where the word ROBOT was used for the very first time. The story follows two young people who try to reveal the mystery of an abandoned old factory.

The technology behind

The conversational AI used in the movie is called Alquist. It is the result of the research conducted by the Team Alquist from Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic. The system uses the latest algorithms for machine learning and natural language understanding. Alquist contains several modules handling intent detection, entity recognition, question answering, and dialogue management. One of the most important goals of the app was to achieve low computational requirements. We have successfully executed Alquist's modules on mobile hardware and in web browsers.

Technologies powering Alquist can be used in many ways, ranging from sales support to question answering over enterprise information systems. 'The Story of Alquist' is just one example of how Alquist can be utilized.

Crew

'The Story of Alquist' was created in collaboration between Team Alquist, Rebel & Glory, and COFILM. The team behind the movie combined people with experience in the fields of artificial intelligence and movie production.

Team Alquist is a scientific team from Czech Technical University in Prague. We conduct research in the fields of conversational AI, natural language processing, and question answering. We develop our conversational AI called Alquist and have competed twice in Amazon's Alexa Prize, both times with a great success in the finals.

Rebel & Glory are technologists and artists, innovators and entrepreneurs. An open platform of brands operating as a big team with a deep expertise of each single one. We aim to build a bright future for brands and blur the line between the physical & digital, building powerful solutions across platforms and communication channels.

COFILM is a production company founded in 2016 and based in Prague, Czech Republic. It is focusing on film projects both independently and in cooperation with other production companies. Its latest project is a documentary feature film about phenomenon of YouTubers called "Following" released in Czech and Slovak cinemas in September 2017 and reaching top 10 of documentary films box office.
